About the Position: Serve as an Industrial Hygienist for Albuquerque District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers responsible for conducting evaluations of work operations for government employees engaged in a variety of civil works planning, engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance.

Duties
- Evaluate chemical hazards resulting from inhalation of vapors, fumes, mists, gases, and dusts, or from skin contact.
- Perform, organize and/or direct on-site surveys and investigations of offices, shops, dams, and construction sites, and conduct literature search to determine nature and severity of hazards present.
- Conduct pre-evaluation briefing with Operations Managers/supervisors at projects to discuss the purpose of the evaluation and the general approach to be taken, and to obtain information of unusual problem areas.
- Formulate specific recommendations for control of health hazards identified.
- Prepare technical report identifying health hazards and recommending measures for their control or elimination.
- Investigate accidents and conduct safety surveys at District work sites.

THIS IS AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT/STANDING REGISTER. It will be used to fill immediate and future vacancies. There may be multiple cut-off dates with the first being

This position has a positive education requirement based on the occupational series under which you are applying. Education above the high school level must have been completed in a U.S. college, university, or other educational institution that has been accredited by one of the accrediting agencies or associations recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education. Applicants must meet one of the below requirements in order to meet the Basic Education Requirement for this position.
Basic Requirement For Industrial Hygienist:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In Addition To Meeting The Basic Requirement Above, To Qualify For This Position You Must Also Meet The Qualification Requirements Listed Below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes advising on a wide range of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) related Safety and Occupational Health concerns, and analyzing technical specification submitted for new equipment, new construction, and/or modifications to existing equipment to verify compliance with applicable standards and policies.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
