Position Summary
This position will report to the Executive Manager, Safety and has responsibility for supporting safety initiatives in line with the corporate safety strategy, best practices, and safety metrics. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting site safety assessments, team training, and developing improvements for site environments and team behavior. The Safety Specialist will work closely with DSUS Safety Team, Site Leadership, and all DSUS Support Departments.
Essential Functions
- Report to the Executive Manager, Safety and support all corporate and department safety initiatives.
- Conduct both scheduled and regular communications – in person, via phone, or via electronic methods – with key stakeholders to ensure training, best practices, and safe behaviors at all DSUS Airports sites. Key stakeholders are defined as DSUS Safety Team, Site Managers, regional leadership, and Support Team members.
- In conjunction with DSUS Safety Team and regional leadership, develop monthly training topics, toolbox talks, and other discussion and training topics for implementation and follow up at all DSUS Airports sites.
- Conduct regular visits to site operations and engage with all levels of field team members. During site visits, perform documented safety audit with observations, recommendations, and follow up to be discussed with DSUS Safety Team and regional leadership for needed improvements.
- In conjunction with DSUS Safety Team, participate in the development and delivery of material for all corporate, regional, and site safety committees and meetings.
- Maintain company Safety Management System. Work with site and regional leadership on core functionality, data and metric review, and end user recommendations. Additionally, monitor and maintain all documentation related to safety incidents in conjunction with site leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Manager, Safety.
Basic Requirements
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude focused on the safety of DSUS Airports team members, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- 3+ years’ experience leading safety culture and initiatives at a multi-site or regional level.
- Knowledge of material handling equipment maintenance activities in an airport, distribution or manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of safety principles, best practices, and training content.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to establish priorities in a changing environment
- Ability to travel in excess of 50% of the time.
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- High School Diploma.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 5+ years’ experience within the Health and Safety function.
- 3+ years’ experience in conducting training in a classroom environment.
- 3+ years’ experience working in a multi-state environment.
- 3+ years’ experience working with material handling equipment and facilities maintenance activities.
- Proficiency in Online Safety Recordkeeping Software (Velocity EHS)
