Description
The SH&E Specialist is responsible for carrying out and assisting with the following 1) ensuring safe work conditions and practices exist that meet all applicable SH&E regulations and company policies, 2) leading incident investigations and conducting root cause analysis, and making recommendations for change or improvements to programs, policy, procedures, and/or training, 3) assist site management and personnel on the recognition, elimination, and control of occupational hazards and environmental risks, 4) assist with monitoring programs to ensure all activities meet established requirements , 5) perform documented safety and environmental audits and make recommendations for corrective actions as needed, 6) responsible for preparing regulatory reports and scheduling stack testing, 7) continuously looking for improvement opportunities, and 8) fostering an atmosphere of continuous improvement to drive process improvement and gained efficiencies. This position reports into the SH&E Manager and works with multiple levels at the Pryor and Marshall site to ensure cooperation and coordination of all departments to meet site SH&E requirements. This includes the following:
- Responsible for preparing and submitting after review with SH&E Manager all regulatory reporting including Tier II Reporting, Environmental Inventory Questionnaires (EIQ), and other environmental, health and safety reports identified,
- Assists with monitoring proposed and existing SH&E regulations and legislation to determine their impact on operations. Assists with development and implementation of programs to ensure continued compliance with all applicable plant, company, state and federal policies, regulations, and legislation,
- Assists with maintaining and establishing as required, SH&E monitoring programs to ensure all activities meet established safety requirements.,
- Assists with maintaining site records for occupational and environmental health and safety including documentation on training and certifications,
- Works with SH&E Manager and Management Team to develop and implement training and other programs and activities necessary to ensure facility SH&E compliance,
- Observe and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with company safety standards as well as all local, state, and federal guidelines,
- Assists with SH&E training from reporting, tracking, maintaining, developing, and providing training,
- As needed assists with new-employee environmental, health and safety orientations,
- Assists with driving continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management,
- Leads and participates in investigating, recording, and reporting undesired SH&E events. Works with SH&E Manager and Management Team to ensure corrective actions are taken to fulfill regulatory compliance. Maintains/Improves current accident and incident reporting system for all employees,
- Performs periodic safety inspections and compliance audits,
- Assists SH&E Manager with creating programs that promote employee health and wellness,
- Provides regular communication to SH&E Manager regarding issues and performance to ensure that relevant issues are quickly and appropriately addressed,
- Prepares, leads, and participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) sessions. Ensures carried out on schedule and action items are carried out as required based on the analysis,
- Assists with and carries out actions required for the Industrial Hygiene Management Program,
- Assists with maintaining all OSHA Recordkeeping Requirements,
- Effectively perform and communicate Root Cause Analysis,
- Coordinates and oversees Site Security,
- Performs inspections of off-site landfill and lagoon.
- Performs required activities associated with off-site lagoon discharge.
- Abide by and assist with enforcing all organizational policies and procedures, and,
- Assists with maintaining records and documentation related to SH&E activities, including ensuring procedures are continuously updated.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational, Safety and Health, Safety Engineering or Related Field and 7+ years of related experience,
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing facility, preferred,
- Strong communication skills,
- Strong analytical skills, ability to gather, analyze and draw well-reasoned conclusions,
- Proven ability to influence actions and mindsets,
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills,
- Highly organized and strong time management skills, and
- Ability to motivate and oversee work of direct and indirect reports.
