Overview:
The Corporate Health & Safety Risk Manager leads Alterman’s safety, injury management, and risk mitigation strategies. This role ensures proactive prevention, effective response, and structured recovery for workplace incidents while supporting employee well-being, regulatory compliance, and organizational resilience.
Essential Functions
- Safety & Incident Management: 25%
- Manages all processes for responding to workplace injuries, illnesses, near-misses, and hazards.
- Oversees the care management team to ensure timely and compliant handling of all cases.
- Ensures the consistent application of OSHA classification standards and enforces internal closure protocols.
- Leads complex case reviews, escalates high-risk scenarios, and recommends work stoppage when necessary.
- Manages non-occupational Return-to-Work Assessments (RTWA) in compliance with ADA/FMLA, ensuring safe reintegration into safety-sensitive roles.
- Workers’ Compensation & Risk Mitigation: 25%
- Oversees workers’ compensation claims from initial report through closure, ensuring accurate documentation and coordination with providers, adjusters, and brokers.
- Analyzes trends and drives resolution strategies to reduce claim costs and promote early return-to-work.
- Maintains detailed, audit-ready documentation to ensure compliance and reduce organizational exposure.
- Investigations, Reporting & Compliance: 10%
- Leads reviews of incident investigations, ensuring reports are complete, accurate, and legally defensible.
- Supports field safety teams in developing SMART corrective actions and identifying systemic risk factors.
- Oversees OSHA reporting, internal recordkeeping, and regulatory submissions.
- Aligns documentation procedures and training materials with current regulations and organizational standards.
- Legal Coordination & Critical Incident Response:
- Serves as the primary liaison with legal on injury-related cases and vehicle incidents.
- Ensures thorough, defensible documentation and participates in hearings or legal proceedings as necessary.
- Leads responses to catastrophic events, conducting post-incident analysis and collaborating with executive leadership on mitigation strategies.
- Leadership, Team Oversight & Training: 25%
- Supervises and mentors the Health, Safety, and Risk (HSR) team, providing direction on case management, classification, and documentation practices.
- Delivers training on incident response, OSHA compliance, RTWA procedures, and documentation expectations.
- Monitors team performance, addresses gaps through coaching, and ensures consistency across field and corporate operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned. 5%
Education And Experience
- Associate’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a related field is required; a Bachelor’s degree is required if relevant experience is not present.
- A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in safety, risk management, or workers’ compensation, with at least 3 years in a leadership or strategic oversight role.
- OSHA 30 certification or NCCER CSSS/CSST required; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing workplace injury cases, conducting root cause investigations, and leading regulatory compliance programs.

- Skilled in conducting investigations, analyzing trends, and creating SMART corrective actions.
- Able to influence cross-functional stakeholders and communicate complex topics clearly and effectively at all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in using Safety Information Management , safety tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and accountability.
- Able to maintain a care-centered approach to safety while ensuring legal defensibility and operational integrity.
Work Environment
- Office environment with frequent visits to job sites, including active construction environments and high-risk operational areas.
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to dust, heat and cold.
- Must be available to respond to serious incidents outside of standard working hours as needed.
Physical Demands
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to move about construction sites, hot environments, including climbing stairs and navigating uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, reach, and perform other physical activities as needed.
