Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) exists to break the cycle of poverty and inequity through education, job training, and employment. OBT’s programs operate out of multiple locations and serve as a bridge to economic opportunity for youth, individuals, and families in underserved communities. Recognizing the access to family-sustaining wage jobs within the construction industry, we offer significant numbers of young adults and adults access to free OSHA credentialing courses.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic OSHA Instructor to deliver this program within both our community-based programs, as well as secure detention facilities via our partnership with NYC Administration of Children Services. The ideal candidate will be independent, organized, and committed to providing learner-centered, participatory education. They must possess excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for empowering justice-impacted individuals.
Essential Responsibilities And Duties
Classroom Instruction:
Conduct OSHA training courses, including OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour certification classes, as well as specialized industry-specific courses
Develop and update training materials such as presentations, handouts, and interactive activities to ensure compliance with current OSHA standards
Facilitate a structured curriculum designed to prepare participants for a career in construction
Student Assessment and Certification:
Administer tests and assessments to measure participants' understanding of course material
Provide certification to participants upon successful completion of the course
Monitor, track, and record student attendance and progress, ensuring all documentation is up to date
Classroom Management:
Maintain high standards of classroom management, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment
Engage participants in community-building activities to foster a supportive learning atmosphere
Professional Development:
Participate in ongoing professional development and best practice sharing activities
Continuously improve course delivery based on participant feedback and evolving industry standards
Administrative Duties:
Keep detailed case notes on student progress and provide regular updates to administration
Submit lesson plans and other required documentation as needed
Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor
Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is preferred. Extensive instructional experience may substitute for education.Relevant certifications are required
Qualifications And Skills
At least two years of experience instructingindividuals representing our target populations
Proficiency in related technology resources
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
