Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Industrial Hygiene Specialist will assist the Department of Energy (DOE) in monitoring and assessing the technical performance of the Department's industrial hygiene program, development of assessment reports, and presenting the assessment results to senior management. The successful candidate will work closely with a Federal team leader and other team members assessing the policy and procedures implemented throughout the Department to meet regulatory requirements related to work planning and control, and specifically industrial hygiene. The Senior Industrial Hygiene Specialist may also provide additional technical support, develop new assessment methodologies, and/or take on special projects in support of the assessment process. The incumbent can expect to participate in three to six assessments per year.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide industrial hygiene technical expertise to plan and execute work planning and control assessments at various DOE sites/facilities.
· Provide technical input to the assigned Federal team leader to support the development of a comprehensive assessment plan that outlines the scope and methods for each assessment.
· Support the onsite team visit(s), conduct interviews, additional document reviews, facility walkdowns, and work observations.
· Assess the potential impact of ineffective industrial hygiene programs including the potential risk to the Department’s mission.
· Provide written and verbal reports of assessment results.
· Develop recommendations to improve industrial hygiene programs and/or implementing procedures or practices.
· Develop assessment findings and prepare assessment reports.
· Other duties as specified by manager or organization.
Position Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in an engineering discipline
· 15 years of relevant commercial or government experience in facility operations, which includes at least 10 years of industrial hygiene experience and 5 years conducting assessments
· U.S. citizen
· Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
· Working knowledge of integrated safety management programs, including application of the guiding principles and core functions of integrated safety management
· Certification by the Board of American Board of Industrial Hygiene is desirable
· Expertise in a wide range of industrial hygiene topics such as personal protective equipment, hazard assessments, chemical management, exposure monitoring and assessment, and confined space.
· Demonstrated ability to evaluate the application of industrial hygiene requirements, plans, systems, and procedures sufficient to evaluate compliance with regulations and standards and the overall effectiveness of a program
· Must have a demonstrated ability to develop reports and presentations (oral and written) that are understandable to a broad audience
· Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to develop reports and presentations (verbal and written) that are understandable to a wide range of audiences.
· Proven ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure in an uncertain environment.
· Willing and able to work well as a part of a team.
· Ability to travel 25-30% of the time to remote DOE facilities.
