Kraemer Brothers Inc. is a commercial General Contractor based in Plain, WI. We are currently seeking a Safety Director. The Safety Director will plan, direct, and implement the organization’s safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident–free work environment by performing the following duties personally, or through subordinates and field supervisors. The Safety Director will work with Executive Management and our Project Superintendents to establish and maintain a strong safety culture.
Essential Functions
· Leads the development and communication of the company’s safety vision, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations to foster a culture of safety and excellence.
· Provides proactive leadership and assumes ownership of maintaining a best-in-class safety culture by:
o anticipating problems & providing solutions
o sharing knowledge with, and providing training, to all levels of management, field staff, and project teams
o interacting with clients, subcontractors, owners, and regulators, and
o creating an environment of learning, mentoring, and empowerment to promote employee engagement
· Leads incident investigation to determine root cause and corrective measures for all incidents.
· Performs site safety audits frequently to detect existing or potential hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
· Compiles and submits any reports regulatory agencies require, including OSHA, Wisconsin DNR, FAA, DOT, BLS, and others.
· Participates in pre- and post-construction meetings and prepares materials and reports for those meetings.
· Manages OSHA inspection processes as they occur.
· Helps facilitate the administration of the return-to-work and workers’ compensation programs, including working with insurance carriers to reduce the overall cost of claims.
· Prepares, arranges, and presents safety content at industry conferences and exhibitions.
· Represents the company in industry association safety groups, such as the Associated General Contractors, and the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin.
· Maintains safety files and records, including the company’s safety award program.
· Develops annual plans & budgets for safety & health initiatives, including training.
· Other duties as assigned.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate the ability to perform the job's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
· A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety and Health, Safety and Health Management, Environmental Safety and Health, or a related program, plus 5 or more years of relevant experience. Experience with a self- performing general contractor or specialty contractor is preferable. 10 years of relevant construction safety experience will be considered instead of formal education. Experience with a self-performing general contractor or specialty contractor is preferable.
· Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation preferred.
· In-depth technical knowledge of construction-related OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
· Training and experience in management are desirable.
· Must be an effective communicator, generating professional written material and delivering effective verbal presentations.
· Have solid interpersonal skills, must be able to work well with the project’s construction site team, owners and construction management firms.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
· Experience with Autodesk Build is desirable.
· Must have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
· Participate and/or lead in meetings, seminars, and training sessions.
· Seeing and observing at close proximity and at a distance in observing and making visual assessments at job sites.
· Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
· Walking on job sites and other locations including excavations, scaffolds, roofs, and elevated platforms to observe the work.
· Listening to conversations and responses at job sites, job offices, and other locations where noise levels are present. Using phones, radios, and handheld devices.
· Job involves exposure to all weather conditions for extended periods including hot, cold, wet, and humid conditions as well as exposure to high noise levels and working in elevated or excavated areas. Job sites typically will include uneven surfaces and may require climbing ladders and scaffolding to review site safety equipment.
