Benchmark Safety, Health and Environmental Services is currently accepting resumes for a Safety & Environmental staffing position for work in the western Maryland and Central WV areas. This is an exempt salary position. This position requires a Monday-Friday 10 hr/day schedule. The work in Maryland will require hotel stays. Reimbursement for hotel and per diem will be provided for the Maryland assignment which will be for approximately 35 weeks per year. The start date for this position is March 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safety oversight and management of Natural Gas Storage Well Infrastructure modification projects.
Required competencies/skills for this position include ten years of construction safety experience associated with the Natural Gas production and pipelines. A candidate with a college degree in Occupational Safety or other technical field is desirable, but not critical if the candidate has adequate Oil and Natural Gas operations experience.
Preferred competencies include experience with daily safety oversight of steel pipe construction, well head maintenance. The applicant should also demonstrate competencies in risk assessment and near-miss reporting. Preparation and presentation of daily tailgate safety meetings, Job Hazard Analysis preparation and reviews with project staff, Inspections, and daily/monthly report preparation is required.
The physical demands associated with this position are frequently standing, walking, sitting, ladder and stair climbing, using hands and arms, reach, and verbal communication. He/she will regularly be required to balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.

Safety Consultant Oversight Responsibilities
The Benchmark Safety Consultant will perform the following duties:
- Prepare, in consultation with site supervision, the daily sign-in sheets, job safety analysis (JSA) and field-level hazard analysis (FLHA) forms based on planned work,
- Update or prepare additional JSA/FLHA forms for emerging conditions detected during work,
- Host morning safety meetings, identifying expected hazard conditions for the day’s work and planned mitigation actions,
- Invite questions and facilitate clarifications during and after the safety meeting,
- Confirm and collect records of required safety orientations, operator certifications, and equipment calibration/certifications,
- Post JSA/FLHA forms and applicable work permits (fire watch, excavation safety checklist, etc.) on the jobsite and collect additional signatures as needed,
- Identify unsafe actions or conditions on each job site, ensure compliance with site safety rules, and address safety concerns as they arise, facilitating Stop Work actions as needed,
- Brief arriving personnel on site activities and hazards,
- Train/coach/mentor workers on best safe-work practices,
- Document and report safety and environmental incidents, including “near misses,”
- Scan and archive each day’s safety documentation,
- Distribute daily safety reports and associated documents via email,
- Ensure effective handover of duties and current activities if personnel substitutions occur within the Benchmark staff.
The Benchmark safety consultant will be required to have the required 30-hour OSHA training course and be competent in the required duties. The safety consultant will stay in the area for easier access to the site, better response time, and to promote uniformity within the group.
